Recon Run Saturday
18 April
On Saturday 18 April we have another
recon run planned. If I get some takers in joining me, we’ll
run a 43km point to point from Wooroloo to Northam. If there
aren’t enough cars to do the point to point I’ll
do a 48km out and back from Wooroloo to Clackline. Let
me know if you want to come along and I’ll
organise start times etc.

New finish line
location
On the night time recon
from Bakers Hill to Northam we found the Avon Bridge Hotel to
be not the best potential finish location with loud music and
happy patrons in the beer garden. The decision has been made
to change the location of the finish to the
Northam
Motel on John St. For one thing, it's about 400
metres shorter in distance...plus it will be a whole lot quieter.
The motel is not exactly the Hilton, but the rooms seem clean
enough if you are planning to stay the night there after the
run. Cost is around $90 for a double. The owner Ong has agreed
to let us and support crew use his dining room while we wait
for runners to arrive. I have booked a room, and those who are
planning to travel back to Perth straight after the race, are
welcome to have a shower there. If you want to contact the Motel,
the phone number is 08 9622 1755; tell them you're running the
ultra and I'm sure they'll look after you.. One last thing...Ong
doesn't normally do meals on a Sunday night, but if there's
enough interest (10 people or more), he'll open up the kitchen
for us.

Night Recon
Run March 28
Just wanted to give early notice
of a recon run planned for Saturday 28 March. The run will be
at night with headlamps from Bakers Hill to Northam, a distance
of about 26km.
Planning to start at Bakers Hill at 6:45pm, to
arrive in Northam by 8:45 – 9:15pm.
We’ll need to drop some cars at Northam,
so if we meet at Bakers Hill at 5:45pm, that will give us an
hour to get cars to Northam and back to the start.
Please
let me know if you’re going to come along.

Kep markers
mystery answered
Last Saturday a few of us did
a training run from Mundaring Weir to Swan View and were puzzled
by the blue and green markings on the Kep trail markers. Some
markers had both blue and green bands on them, others had just
blue or green bands. On the track past Mundaring, the markers
have neither of the colour bands. There was one point on the
track between the Weir and Mundaring that there appeared to
be an option to either follow blue banded markers or green banded
markers. To get to the bottom of this, I emailed the National
Trust who manage the Kep Track, and Anne Brake, Manager, Golden
Pipeline for The Trust was kind enough to provide the following
clarification:
"With regards the markers,
the Kep Track shares the path with the Trust’s O’Connor
Trail between Mundaring Weir and the site of the old No 2 Pump
Station. At this point, the O’Connor Trail loops back
to the weir. The 2 colours denote the 2 different paths (Kep
Track is blue, O’Connor Trail is green). We are currently
doing an audit of the Kep Track and one of the things we will
look at is the need (or otherwise) for the markers to continue
past this spot."
So on May 31 make sure you remember...follow
the blue, not the green, otherwise you'll finish up back at
the Weir.

Recon run from
Mundaring Weir to Pechey Road Sat Jan 10
We are doing a recon run on the
course this Saturday morning 10 January from Mundaring Weir
to Pechey Road Swan View, which should be about 26 or 27km.
Some people will be leaving their car at Pechey Road (corner
Morrison Road), and then will travel to Mundaring Weir with
others...those leaving their car at Mundaring Weir will then
get a lift back afterwards.
The plan is to meet at Pechey Road at 5:45am, and start the
run from the Mundaring Weir Hall at 6am.
Let us know if you're planning on coming.
December 21:
We're going
to go the other way!
A few of us had a chat about the
Kep Ultra in Dwellingup at the 6 Inch trail race, and the following
was decided:
1) The May 31 date was confirmed.
2) We're running from Mundaring Weir to Northam, rather than
the other way around.
The 75km runners will now start 3 hours after the 100km runners,
meaning that both groups get to Mt Helena at around the same
time, and from there both groups will sort of be in sync, making
providing support a lot easier.
December 5:
Date change
to 31 May
The date of the Kep Ultra has
changed, and it will now be run 31 May 2009. It suits a number
of people better.
